Further simulator deployments will be decided in accordance with customer demand worldwide.

Best-in-class training quality: with Flight Training Alliance.

The training facilities: Ideal Conditions for Success.

Long-term success is based on certain foundations: To ensure that your crew can train under ideal conditions all Flight Training Alliance facilities are located in the networks of the parent companies and industry leaders LAT and CAE.

The training facilities offer you an excellent infrastructure with outstandingly equipped classrooms. All training facilities are designed to meet all applicable local building codes, applicable regulatory, as well as specific requirements for the geographic area in which they are located, as well as specific conditions associated with the distribution of training material via the Internet (i.e. high-speed wireless capability).

All materials and classrooms are precisely geared towards the needs of Airbus. A WBT/CBT program developed by CSALP for the A220 supports the practical training sessions in a targeted way. Furthermore, we provide you with special business areas at all training locations, with free access to photocopy and fax equipment, wireless Internet access, telephone access, and student lounge or refreshment area.

Full Flight Simulators

The first Full-Flight Simulator of Flight Training Alliance is located in the training facilities of Lufthansa Aviation Training in Frankfurt since August 2016. This state-of-the-art training device is a CAE 7000XR simulator and it was the third A220 FFS deployed worldwide.

The simulator received EASA Level C approval on August 18th, 2016 and it was upgraded and approved under the German Aviation Authorities (LBA) as Level D in August 2017. FTA keeps the simulator up to the latest aircraft evolutions and the device was updated with Autoland, CATIII-A and Steep Approach in 2018.

It contains a newly designed Instructor Operator Station (IOS) equipped with two 16:9 monitors. The Airbus A220 differs from other types of aircraft, as all flight control systems are operated completely electrically. This means that the FTA simulator, which is an exact replica of the actual cockpit, requires fewer mechanical components and is more reliable from a technical standpoint.

FTA works closely with Airbus and CSALP, thus ensuring that the training it provides is perfectly tailored to the needs of operators of the A220. This also guarantees that all of its training programs and the evolution of the simulator are on a par with the respective level of aircraft development.

The Training Courses: The Right Fit for Your A220 Training Requirements.

We offer a wide range of courses for your A220 Training.

Basic Cockpit Training

Type Rating

Type rating training offers the combination of practical training in the full-flight simulator, theoretical instruction, and Web-/computer-based training. The structure of the course is determined in close cooperation with Bombardier.

Product Sheet

Recurrent Training and Checking

The aim of recurrent training and checking is to retain the type rating (LPC) and/or fulfill the respective operator requirements (OPC). All technical and operational topics are individually tailored to meet the requirements of the competent authority and the operator's training manual.

Product Sheet

Multi-Crew Cooperation (MCC)

The MCC serves to optimize the teamwork and cooperation of cockpit crews. The emphasis is on teaching interpersonal skills. MCC courses can be booked as a “stand-alone” course or combined with the type rating course.

Product Sheet

Bridge Course

Our bridge training course prepares trainees with less experience for a C Series type rating with the aim of completing the type rating in an appropriate time period.

Additional Cockpit Training

Instructor Courses

For pilots holding a C Series type rating aiming to become instructor on this type (TRI or SFI), or for pilots holding a C Series type rating and an instructor rating on an other aircraft type, aiming for an instructor type extension on the C Series.

Product Sheet

All Weather Operations (AWO)

Participants acquire flight approach certification under CAT II or CAT III weather conditions. Central components are multilevel practical training in a full-flight simulator and e-learning courses. Additional content: system basics, normal and abnormal procedures.

Product Sheet

Extended Twin Operations (ETOPS)

ETOPS rules are based on operational regulations, typically promulgated by EU OPS. During ETOPS training, long-distance air traffic policy and the associated additional rules relating to flight planning and in-flight decision-making are taught.

Product Sheet

Required Navigation Performance/Area Navigation (RNP RNAV)

The course gives a theoretical overview about all aspects of RNAV. Beneath basic area navigation principles, Precision RNAV and RNP RNAV are trained.

Product sheet

Head-Up Guidance System (HUD/HGS)

A head-up guidance system (HUD/HGS) displays flight data within the pilot's field of vision. This system will be available upon customer request on the Bombardier C Series. The training teaches how to operate this system.

Product sheet

Zero Flight Time Landing Training (ZFTT)

The ZFTT FFS mission shall be performed after a type rating skill test. The ZFFT FFS mission is exclusively dedicated to landing training and qualifies the pilot to avoid base training.

Upset Prevention & Recovery Training (UPRT)

The objective of the UPRT is to help flight crews to acquire the required competencies to prevent or recover from a developing or developed aeroplane upset. Prevention training prepares flight crews to avoid incidents whereas recovery training prepares flight crews to prevent an accident once an upset condition has occurred.

UPRT is required during various AOC holder training events according to EU regulations as of May 2016. FTA has developed all required training modules in line with ICAO, IATA and EU rules and recommendations.

Additional Training

Dispatcher Training

Well-trained flight dispatchers are responsible for ensuring an airline’s commercial success by overseeing smooth, safe, economical and punctual flight operations. The flight dispatcher course provides the knowledge and skills required for A220-specific dispatch of the aircraft, including general aircraft system knowledge, use of MEL/CDL/performance calculations and weight and balance operations.

This course is based on instructor-led, on-site training, comprising typical classroom lessons with presentations of the instructor at one of the ATP’s training centers in Europe or at other worldwide locations upon request and mutual agreement between Airbus, the customer and Flight Training Alliance.

The course is designed as conversion training and requires flight dispatchers with completed initial training. It will comprise the following training topics:

•    Aircraft limitations
•    Main aircraft systems
•    Aircraft documentation
•    Flight planning and performance
•    Weight and balance

The dispatcher training is a three-day course, consisting of theoretical instruction and several case studies.

Cabin Crew Conversion Training

The A220 Train the Trainer / Cabin Crew Conversion training makes your crew fit to fly on this new aircraft. It covers all required items for a subsequent conversion as defined by Regulation Air Operations and National Authorities.

The training consists of emergency procedures and regulations to qualify the cabin crew in the understanding of the procedures and the performance of their duties in an emergency. The training combines a balanced content of theoretical and practical sessions and is designed as training for experienced cabin crews. It’s based on the idea of fundamental theory, established in the classroom and in Web-based training in a daily session on the brand-new Cabin Emergency Evacuation Trainer (CEET) where, from simple door training to complex procedure training, the crews will be readied for any scenario on board the new A220.
